The Road to Right Decision

The Road to Right Decision

This is the truth – you are your own worst enemy. Hindi natin minsan namamalayan na masyado natin pinapamper ang sarili natin. We have this constant voice na nagsasabi ng mga bagay na gusto nating marinig. The voice who always tells us what we want to believe and sometimes, we use it as a tool in making big decisions.

Somehow it is true – madali tayong nagpapadala sa bugso ng puso’t damdamin. Our heart reacts in an instant against criticisms or corrections. It also controls our desire and wants. But in this proverb, Solomon used “heart” as a symbolism about our thoughts and desires that affects our decision-making.

Most of the time, we listen to our heart sa bawat actions na gagawin natin, we consult it and we listen to it. I believe it is okay, pero pero pero… a heart without the Holy Spirit to guide us and His Scriptures that give us wisdom makes us a fool. God looks into our hearts – our motives, compassion and character. It should be molded by His Words and be grounded by His promises and peace. Ang mahirap kasi, nagdedecide tayo na naka-based sa emotions. We tend to decide pag galit tayo or nanggigigil at naiinis. So in the end, hindi maganda nagiging results. On the other hand, kapag happy naman tayo, nalilimutan natin ang ibang tao, we focus on our self lang and we want to give “rewards” or “gifts” sa sarili natin kahit wala ng pera.

We become a fool if we talk and think with utter self-dependence. Yung feeling na, “I don’t need anybody to live, I can do it on my own”. Let’s not ruin our spiritual life by living apart from counsel and wisdom from others. Most importantly, we should only depend to one true source – God and His Words. So if you are in a situation where you have to make a desicion, don’t fully rely on your heart. First, check mo muna kumusta heart mo? Filled ba sya ng presensya at salita ng Diyos? Second, si Holy Spirit ba ang nagcocover and nagpoprotect ng heart mo? If both are “checked”, then you are about to make a great decision.

As it says in His words, “Above all else, guard our heart, for everything we do flows from it.” (Proverbs 4:23) Let Jesus’ overflowing love and His amazing grace reign and rule within our hearts as we keep obeying Him through His words and be secured in every plan and small/big decision we will make with Holy Spirit guidance – for God’s Glory alone!

The true meaning of wisdom is to make decisions based on the absolute and objective truth. We have to learn to mistrust our heart and reject its voice. So where is the greatest source for decision making? It is in the true Words of the living God and can be found and read in the bibile. It is thru immersing in His words and training ourself to decide based on them. Then we can be wise and saved from the deceitful impulses of our depraved heart.
